The quickest way to get a first draft is to choose **Draft** on a post in your saved calendar. Wavefront writes it from the plan, checks it, and puts it in **Review** for you. You can also start any piece by hand from **New generation**.

## Draft a post from the calendar

You need a saved plan first. See [plan with the strategist](/help/getting-started/plan-with-the-strategist).

1. Open **Strategy** and the **Calendar** section, or the **Up next** list on the **Overview** page.
2. Find the post and choose **Draft**. The estimate next to the button ("≈ N credits") shows what a draft of that kind usually uses.
3. A message says the draft started. The calendar chip switches to Drafting.
4. When it's ready, it appears in **Review**, and the sidebar's **Review** count goes up.

To draft several posts at once, choose **Draft posts** and pick **Due in the next 7 days**, **Due in the next 2 weeks** or **Due in the next 4 weeks**. On the Strategy page this drafts only the open strategy's posts; on the Overview it drafts every active strategy's.

A calendar draft keeps its link to the plan, so it carries the post's strategy, keywords and date. Because of that link, it can publish on its calendar date later.

## Start a piece from New generation

Choose **New generation** in the sidebar (or press `c`), then pick a kind:

- **Article**: a sourced, long-form page.
- **Copy**: a social post, a newsletter, a meta description or another short piece.
- **Image**: one image for an article or post.

Fill in the form. Required fields come first; the rest are under **More options**. Then choose **Generate**. Every draft reads your workspace documents and waits for a person to approve it.

If you open a calendar post here, the page shows **Draft this post** instead, so the draft stays bound to the plan.

## Follow a draft while it writes

Open the draft from the message, the Library or the Overview. The **Progress** box shows where it is:

1. **Queued**: waiting to start.
2. **Writing**: with the current stage, such as research, outline, draft or checks.
3. **Waiting for input**: the draft needs something it couldn't find. Answer the questions in the **Input needed** form and choose **Send answers**. The same run resumes. Unanswered questions expire after 14 days.
4. **Review**: a version is ready. Continue with [review and approve](/help/getting-started/review-and-approve).

The page updates on its own while the draft runs.

## Let autopilot draft for you

Owners can turn on workspace autopilot, which drafts every active strategy's posts as they come due, every 30 minutes. Each draft waits for your approval unless an owner turns on auto-approve. See [autopilot and auto-approve](/help/strategy-and-planning/autopilot-and-auto-approve).

## What a draft costs

Each draft holds credits while it runs and is charged what it used when it finishes. Length and research change the cost. A draft that fails because of a problem on our side is free. If you cancel a draft with **Cancel generation**, you're charged only for the work already done. See [your plan and credits](/help/billing-and-credits/plan-and-credits).

## If something goes wrong

- **"Nothing is due in the next 7 days".** Your calendar has no undrafted posts in that range. Pick a longer range, or draft one post directly.
- **Some posts were skipped.** The message says why, for example that a post already has a draft.
- **"Choose a plan to keep drafting" or "Add credits to keep drafting".** The trial ended or the credits ran out. An owner can fix it from **Billing**. Others see "Ask an owner to add credits".
- **The draft failed.** The page says what happened. A failed draft we caused isn't charged, so you can try again. See [common errors](/help/troubleshooting/common-errors).
